劣化したサンバイザーの交換 / Replacement of deteriorated sun visors
Blistering is one of the typical issues regularly happens on sun visors equipped on Porsches at least in 70s. What happens are sponge mat inside become deteriorated, both PVC surfaces come apart and blistered. Replacing the pair with new one should be the most popular way, but its is expensive and furthermore, less enjoyable.
I thought of searching for secondhand alternative ones from another vehicle for similar size and attachment structure.
I found and purchased a pair of sun visors from Nissan Z32 (300ZX).
Comparison with the original 911SC’s (top). The style of Z32 sun visor looks as if designed for Porsche.
The attachment structures look similar each other. The left is of 911SC.
Comparison of hardware pulled out of both sun visors. Looks similar each other as well. Those on left are from 911SC and the right are from Z32.
Conversion completed. I finally used 911SC’s black plastic bases as are, combined with all the rest from Z32, with some washers added to optimize tension of springs placed behind the plastic bases.
I only had to make some minor modification around the pins clipped onto the roof but well done in overall. Now things look perfectly fit? Hopefully anybody does not notice that the sun visors were from Nissan vehicle unless telling so, unless finding a small mirror for powdering placed on the left side.
