Factory CDI box failed!
My 911SC’s engine suddenly stopped running on the way coming back to home from a local Land Transportation Office where I transferred the ownership, on the day right after I picked up the car from the previous owner. I tried to restart it and managed to move forward but it completely stopped the function with only a few hundreds of meters remained to my home. Towing service helped me get the vehicle back to my garage.
Parked the car at home with the hood opened for a while to cool it down, retried to start but no success.
I noticed that I was not hearing high frequency noise that should come from the factory CDI box whenever ignition is ON. I put the electrical connector disconnected and reconnected, pull off and put on the three fuses located at the left of the engine compartment (I learned they do not affect ignition later), no improvement.
The voltage measured at the vehicle-side connector was good, while my timing light was telling me that all the 6 spark plugs were not firing at all. After cranking the engine for a while, I learned that the fuel was properly supplied as the heads of the fuel injectors were wet with fuel.
I reached the conclusion that some failure happened on the CDI box. Removed it.
I opened the cover and looked inside, and was not sure if I could make it repaired or restored. I then learned that used or rebuilt ones are available in the market but the price range is surprisingly high.
The way I chose was that I would abandon the use of factory original CDI box in favor of another solution originally equipped on a Japanese vehicle.
